The successful relationship between Coco Gauff and Pere Riba has come to an end. The Catalan coach is not at the WTA Finals in Cancun and had sparked a rumor of a possible split that has been confirmed by the American tennis player after achieving last night her first victory in the singles round robin.

"It was not my decision. We were great together and I wish her the best in the future. I would have loved for him to be here, but that's the way things are. Pere is a great guy who helped me both on a personal and tennis level. I'm sure he will be successful whoever he is with," explained Coco, accompanied in Mexico by Brad Gilbert.

Riba and Coco Gauff part ways

Riba, as confirmed to MARCA, has ended his relationship with the third racket of the WTA to not being able to travel so much "for family issues of a personal nature. I am very happy with the work we have done together, because all the objectives were met, and I am convinced that next year Gauff will be number one".

The tennis player and the prestigious Spanish coach started working together at the Eastbourne tournament, at the beginning of the grass court tour. The fruits of the partnership were not long in coming and Coco, thanks to a great change with her forehand, signed an excellent American hard court tour with titles in Washington, Cincinnati and US Open, as well as the quarterfinals in Montreal.

The last time Gauff was seen with Riba was at the WTA 1000 in Beijing where the American lost in the semifinals to Iga Swiatek. A streak of 16 consecutive victories was interrupted there.
