Esther Wang Missing Update: Is She Found After Hiking?
The search for Esther Wang, a 16-year-old who went missing while hiking in Golden Ears Park, Maple Ridge, has been ongoing.
Wang was part of a group of four individuals participating in a youth activity on Tuesday morning when they embarked on the East Canyon Trail to Steve’s Lookout.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., after enjoying the viewpoint, the group began their return to the campground.
However, around 15 minutes into the walk back, the group’s leader realized that Wang was no longer with them.
They immediately retraced their steps to the lookout but could not locate her. Concerned for her safety, the Ridge Meadows RCMP was alerted, and Maple Ridge Search and Rescue was called in to assist.
Throughout the night, search efforts were conducted by Maple Ridge Search and Rescue, with additional support from neighbouring search and rescue teams. A police drone was also deployed to aid in the search.
The search was still underway on Wednesday afternoon, involving approximately 45 volunteers from various search and rescue teams and a helicopter. The investigation was set to continue until darkness fell.
The challenging terrain and dense vegetation surrounding the hiking trails posed additional difficulties locating Wang.
Despite her carrying a cell phone, the remote area’s lack of cell reception hindered efforts to track her through pings.
However, Wang was reportedly well-prepared for the hike, bringing water and food.
Described as Asian, 5’3″ tall and slim, Wang has long black hair. She was last seen wearing black leggings, a black jacket, and a navy blue baseball hat.
Additionally, she was carrying a blue, red, and white backpack.
As of now, Esther Wang has not been found, and authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that could help locate her.
Those hiking in the area or with relevant information are strongly encouraged to contact Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
The search efforts persist, and the community remains hopeful for Esther Wang’s safe return.
