Nicolas Cage Was 'Thunderstruck' by Lisa Marie Presley Whose Engagement Ring Was Thrown into the Oce
Actor Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley were among the biggest celebrity couples of the early 21st century, but unfortunately, their union had more low moments than high.
Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage met Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Hollywood icon Elvis Presley, in 2000 at a party. The actor said he was "thunderstruck" the moment he saw her.
Cage was still married to his wife Patricia Arquette when they met, but this didn't stop his heart from beating for Presley. The "Ghost Rider" actor later opened up about how he felt when he met Presley during an interview with Barbara Walters.

He said, "I walk into a party not knowing who I'm going to meet, and there's this beautiful girl standing in the middle of the living room wearing this short leather skirt and this fluffy jacket."
He continued, "and she looks up at me with these big, beautiful, soulful eyes that look like they have a sad story to tell, and I just went 'Oh.' I was thunderstruck."
Cage explained that they got talking and introduced themselves to each other. The "Pig" actor saw the funny side of Presley and fell for her. The 59-year-old claimed he did not see her as the great Elvis Presley's daughter but as Lisa.
The duo's friendship quickly turned romantic, and Cage said their mutual attraction was built on their shared childhood experience. Lisa Marie Presley was born as the daughter of the "King of Rock and Roll," while Cage had the burden of the famous Coppola family name on his back.

The young friends understood the pressure that came from their background, so it was easy for them to be together. But, despite their shared history, their relationship never reached the heights many expected.
THEIR RELATIONSHIP HAD A TUMULTUOUS START
Cage announced his divorce from his longtime partner, Arquette, in 2001, and by then, his relationship with Presley had gained ground and was common knowledge to all. But, there were whispers that the actor was dating Penelope Cruz.
Cage and Presley squashed such concerns in the most fashionable way. The lovebirds appeared loved up at the premiere of "Captain Corelli's Mandolin." Presley was also by his side as he was inaugurated into Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Fans held high hopes for the new lovebirds. Cage was a sworn fan of Elvis's, and marrying his daughter was thought to be the highlight of every fan's dream. But the young flames were alike in many ways, which hindered their relationship.
Presley and Cage were both emotional beings, and due to this, they had an on-and-off relationship. The couple broke up a few months after they confirmed their relationship. But barely two months later, Cage and Presley were spotted together at his "Windtalkers" movie premiere.

SURPRISE MARRIAGE
Cage and his heartthrob, Presley, shocked the world when they announced their marriage barely two years after they met. The couple had a short, simple ceremony held on the island of Hawaii.
The event was a family affair and had about 30 guests in attendance, including Lisa Marie Presley's mother, Priscilla, who remarked that the wedding was an astonishing moment for the young lovers.
Presley and Cage chose to wed on a historic day, Elvis's 25th death anniversary. The event was special, but the preparation was not without tantrums and their usual arguments.

Close sources claim the couple frequently argued in the weeks leading up to their big day. One of their fights led to Lisa's $65,000 engagement ring being thrown into the ocean. Both stars denied throwing it in, but the ring was confirmed to have been in the ocean.
When divers could not locate the ring, Cage purchased another ten-carat ring for Lisa. Their wedding was one of the craziest experiences of their lives. Years later, Lisa reflected on her past relationships, and when she recalled her union with Cage, she said, "Marrying him was a wild flurry, a crazy idea, and being young and 'Ahhhh!.'"

THEY GOT DIVORCED
Presley and Cage continued to argue even after their wedding. The lovebirds divorced almost as quickly as they wed. According to reports, one of the couple's frequent arguments left Presley overly irritated at their union.
Cage had threatened to divorce Presley during a heated argument, and he returned days later to apologize, but Presley was having none of it. She told him:
"You can't have a temper tantrum and then call me four days later and expect, you know, everything to be fine again."

Their marriage lasted 108 days before it ended. The couple finalized their divorce in 2004, and each party was entitled to retain what they earned before the marriage.
Years later, Presley refused to blame the failure of their marriage on Cage, adding that they were both responsible for it. She also admitted that they were truly in love but failed to control their emotions.

HOW LISA MARIE EXPLAINED THEIR DIVORCE
Lisa Marie Presley and Cage embraced different approaches to their divorce. The "National Treasure" actor was quiet about it, but Presley frequently shared her thoughts on their failed union.
She noted that they had similar situations and similar backgrounds, which were responsible for their connection. But she claimed that despite their similarities and bond, they were more like "tyrannical pirates."

According to the actress, when one pirate marries another, they'll both sink the ship. Giving her thoughts on marrying Cage, Presley said, "I'm sad about this, but we shouldn't have been married in the first place."
When asked about their marriage, Cage declined to comment at first but later confirmed that he missed Presley. The actor said, "Sometimes I wish we couldn't have rushed the marriage, and sometimes I regret rushing the divorce, but it just seemed like it wasn't going to change."

Presley later revealed that she and Cage had made peace and remained friends. More than a decade after their split, Cage recalled his marriage to Lisa, noting that they shared several good moments.
After his divorce from Presley, Cage went to be married twice, but both marriages ended in divorce. Presley tied the knot with guitarist Michael Lockwood in 2006 and shared two kids before calling things off a decade later.
